RESEARCH

Lunarlab is a collaboration between the Luxembourg Space Agency (LSA) and Trillium Technologies, in partnership with Datarock, Google Cloud, LuxProvide, NVIDIA, Scan AI, Pasteur ISI and other private industry and academia. Together, we apply the latest tools and techniques in AI and Machine Learning (ML) to address basic research priorities in support of science and exploration.

Over the next eight weeks we are going to accomplish remarkable things together - with the best of motivations: planetary stewardship.

We chose our mission statement carefully because it acknowledges our responsibility to the future. A steward nurtures and protects what already exists, while carefully guiding new development in a responsible manner. The principle of ‘optimistic stewardship’ is our guiding star for developing impactful technology and for growing our community.

FOUNDATION MODEL FOR LUNAR RESOURCES

Can we build a precursor multi-instrument lunar foundation model for surface feature detection—and enable downstream decision intelligence for resource acquisition?

In support of FDL Lunarlab and the Luxembourg Space Agency’s ongoing lunar exploration objectives, we propose developing a multi-instrument foundation model for the Moon, capable of revealing and quantifying metallic signatures associated with impact ejecta. This work would build on existing FDL research which developed the first map of lunar thermophysical anomalies using physically-interpretable neural networks and provides a powerful ‘validation case’ to test the efficacy of the Foundation Model.
